For as long as humanity remains a visual race, people will always want to look and watch more than read.
This is the one fact that many brands and products have abused, misused and overused. This is also the one fact that many worthwhile causes and non-profit organizations have underused and never used.
Sites like Pinterest, Instagram and even Facebook have been snubbed and believed to be a place where materialistic desires are promoted and shared. And it is. Sign up and you will be flooded with photos of cars, clothes, accessories and toys.
It’s marketing at its finest… and it’s free.
It’s a pity because Pinterest and other similar sites are marketing tools and everyone knows that even the most serious causes in this world need marketing.
UNICEF figured it out.
They created an account for a little girl who post photos of the thing that she really wants in life. Instead of putting bags, tours, cars, bracelets and other luxuries, she posts photos of everyone’s basic needs, the ones we usually ignore like food, water, clothes and human right.
It is an in-your-face statement from UNICEF and it is brilliantly done. In the midst of beautifully photographed women wearing clothes that emphasize their assets, lies photos of a poor girl hoping to simply get by for the day.
No one has done it before on Pinterest. At least not as tastefully done by UNICEF.
The result is millions of repins and a giant leap towards UNICEF’s goal to make people more aware of the fact that some people have it worse.
